Our international community

Our graduate programs not only give international students the chance to further their education, but also the opportunity to develop strong personal and professional connections in the U.S. We offer more than 50 graduate degree programs in fields including education, business, and the arts and sciences – all taught by instructors who are leaders in their fields.

ESL training and support

We also offer year-round English as a Second Language (ESL) training for international students who need additional preparation for academic course work toward a graduate degree at The College of Saint Rose.  Our ESL program provides international students with the English skills needed to participate successfully in their academic studies at Saint Rose, and to engage in activities, relationships, and organizations at the College and the surrounding community.

About Saint Rose

The College of Saint Rose is located in an urban residential neighborhood at the heart of Albany, the capital city of New York State. Located on the Hudson River, Albany is the state’s major political and cultural center. There are over 300,000 people in Albany County with nearly 60,000 people attending college or university in the Capital Region.

The Saint Rose campus is located in the center of the city, with immediate access to world-class museums, theaters, galleries, shopping centers, and restaurants. The College of Saint Rose is a prominent organization in the community, which offers our students many professional and educational opportunities. There’s always something to do in Albany. There are numerous shops, coffee houses, concerts and festivals to attend. Albany is minutes from hiking trails, skiing and camp grounds and just a few hours from New York City, Boston and Montreal.

Yes. If you have your credentials evaluated by an approved professional service, and it is considered equivalent to a US bachelors, you may be considered for admission directly into a master’s degree. If your bachelor’s is not equivalent – like many degrees from South Asia – you may be considered for our Bridge Program in either the MBA or MS in Computer Information Systems. Bridge students complete a series of advanced undergraduate coursework prior to beginning their graduate studies.

The College of Saint Roses follows the WES guidelines for 3-year Indian bachelor’s degrees. We consider a 3-year Indian bachelor’s degree in 1st Class from a school with an A accreditation through NAAC to be equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree, making the applicant eligible to be considered for admission to a master’s program or Certificate of Advanced Study at Saint Rose.

No. Saint Rose has been an independent College since 1970. We welcome and encourage students from all religious and cultural backgrounds. However, Saint Rose was founded in 1920 as a Roman Catholic college for women by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet. The founders of Saint Rose believed that spirituality was an essential part of an educational experience rooted in faith, compassion, and community service.

Yes. Saint Rose currently enrolls students from more than 25 different countries, including Canada, China, Egypt, El Salvador, England, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Kenya, Pakistan, Peru, Russia, Sweden, Thailand and Tanzania, to name a few. International students play an important role in our community and in our efforts to raise multicultural awareness. The Center for International Programs helps international students with visas, as well as organizes many fun social activities. Yes. There are many cultural communities in the Saint Rose neighborhood. Within walking distance you will find ethnic markets, restaurants, and community centers. The vibrant international community includes groups like: Chinese Community CenterTurkish Cultural CenterIndian culture groups, Pakistan Association, Vietnamese Community, and more.

The Application Process

Yes. International students must take either the Duolingo, the TOEFL, IELTS or PTE exam to demonstrate English proficiency. Applicants to programs in Business (MBA and MS in Accounting) should provide GMAT scores.

Your recommendation letter should help us get to know you, so it should come from someone who knows what personal and academic qualities you have that make you a good candidate for Saint Rose. Overall, the letter should to be truthful and positive.

A letter of recommendation typically includes:
• How the recommender knows you.
• Information and examples of your work ethic, academic skills, and intellectual promise.
• Why you are a good candidate for Saint Rose.

Enrollment and Funding

Yes, all accepted graduate students who want an I-20 study at The College of Saint Rose must pay a nonrefundable $150 Graduate Enrollment deposit (except CSD students who follow a separate deposit procedure). For more information click here.

Yes, international students are eligible for graduate scholarships and Graduate Assistantships. Both forms of funding are based on academic merit and require separate applications. For more information click here.
