Financial Aid Policies & Procedures
- All students who
wish to receive need-based financial aid must submit the Free
Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) each year. This
applies to most financial aid sources. The exception would be
students who are receiving scholarships or non need-based grants
only from Institutional sources, and who do not wish to be considered
for any other aid, such as loans or work. If in doubt, file the
FAFSA.
NOTE: students who receive Institutional scholarships such
as the Rooney-Gibbons scholarship or athletic awards which are
within $5,000 of the College's annual undergraduate tuition ($15,242
for 2003-2004) are required to file the FAFSA so that any TAP
or Pell awards for which they may qualify can be taken into consideration
when determining the final amount of their Institutional awards.
- You should file your FAFSA in mid-February
each year in order to ensure that we will receive the need analysis
results by March 1st. We will process financial aid for
those who apply later, but it is probable that the aid awards
will be less than they might have been if you had filed your FAFSA
before March 1st.
- Financial Aid will not be disbursed to
a student's account until the College has received all necessary
documentation. From year to year, the College must receive
your valid ISIR no later than October 1 for the fall semester
or November 1 for the spring semester for you to maintain eligibility
for any need-based Institutional financial aid you may have been
offered in the past. If the ISIR is not received by the applicable
date, any Institutional financial aid previously offered to you
will be withdrawn.
- All Institutional financial aid awards
are offered for full-time study (at least twelve credits per term
for undergraduates, or nine credits per term for graduates) unless
stated otherwise. Some Federal and State financial aid
awards require full-time attendance as well. Awards requiring
full-time registration will be cancelled for students not attending
on a full-time basis.
Note to GRADUATE STUDENTS: Although the College considers nine
credits in a semester to be full-time graduate study, financial
aid awards from New York State (such as TAP) require at least
twelve credits per term.
- Institutional financial aid awards are
"tuition-only" awards. These awards may not exceed
the cost of tuition minus any other "tuition-only" award
such as New York State's TAP or a "tuition-only" scholarship
from an outside agency or organization.
- Financial aid awarded on the basis of
financial need will be re-evaluated each year of a student's attendance.
If your financial need decreases, Institutional need-based aid
will be reduced accordingly. If your financial need increases
in subsequent years, Institutional need-based financial aid will
be increased to an amount not to exceed the level of aid received
in your initial financial aid package.
- If you withdraw from the College, your
Institutional financial aid will be cancelled indefinitely.
Should you "stop out" for a term, you may request that
your eligibility for Institutional financial aid be deferred for
a period of one semester. "Stopping out" for longer
than one semester will result in the loss of Institutional financial
aid eligibility indefinitely.
- The term "Institutional financial
aid" refers to any scholarship or grant awarded by The College
of Saint Rose from its own restricted or unrestricted funding
sources.

Athletic Scholarships (Athletic
Service Awards)
The College of Saint Rose participates
in NCAA Division II athletic competition. In accordance with NCAA
regulations, the College offers athletic scholarship funding to
talented student athletes for intercollegiate teams. All recipients
of an Athletic Service Award (ASA) are required to earn the first
$1,000 of the award through Athletic Work Study employment. In order
to receive that portion of the ASA, the student must work the required
number of hours to earn wages up to $1,000. The balance of the award
is credited to the athlete's tuition bill as a grant. The total
amount of an ASA will vary depending upon ability and availability
of positions on team rosters.
The College of Saint Rose Athletic department
makes recommendations of ASA amounts to the Financial Aid office.
Official ASA notification is indicated from the Financial Aid office.
Students interested in being considered for ASA funding should contact
the Athletic department or the coach for the sport of interest.
New York State residents are required to
apply for the New York State Tuition Assistance Program if their
Athletic Service Awards exceed $10,000. Recipients of ASA funding
should submit the FAFSA if other aid is desired.
Second Chance Scholarship
The Second Chance Scholarship is awarded
to full-time returning adult students from two-year colleges with
priority given to Hudson Valley Community College transfer students.
This is a two-year scholarship, which varies according to need and
academic achievement. Application for admission, an ISIR or SAR
from having filed the FAFSA, and the completed Second Chance Scholarship
Application must be received by June 1(for Fall) or November 1 (for
Spring), prior to the semester of beginning attendance at The College
of Saint Rose.
Other Scholarships
The College also offers other scholarship
opportunities. Please refer to the Financial Aid and Scholarship
Opportunities brochure for complete information. In general, a student
must apply for admission to the College prior to February 1 in order
to be selected for these endowed scholarships. No separate application
is necessary, as the College will match an applicant's qualifications
to those of the award. Because of funding and awarding variables,
not all scholarships are available in any given year.

Satisfactory
Academic Progress Policy (SAP)
Financial aid recipients are required to maintain Satisfactory Academic
Progress (SAP). The College will evaluate SAP after grades are reported
at the end of each semester. This SAP policy applies to all financial
aid programs except for the New York State financial aid programs
that have a different policy for academic progress and program pursuit.
The SAP policy requires that financial aid recipients achieve a
minimum number of earned credits and a minimum cumulative Grade
Point Average (GPA) after each semester. In addition to maintaining
SAP toward the educational objective after each semester, recipients
of Federal Student Aid (FSA) cannot receive FSA funding for more
than 150% of the minimum time duration for completing their program.
The following chart indicates the SAP standards at The College of
Saint Rose.

Once you have reached your 12 semesters of financial aid, you will
no longer be considered eligible for Federal financial aid.
What if I am part-time?
Students who are enrolled part-time are also required to maintain
the SAP standards on a time basis proportional to their enrollment
status. Therefore, SAP for a part-time students will be evaluated
after the equivalent of a full-time enrollment load (a minimum of
twelve credits) has been attempted.
Do my transfer credits count towards
SAP?
Yes, your transfer credits do count towards calculating your SAP
status.
Will I be notified if I do not
make satisfactory academic progress?
Yes, at the end of each semester the Financial Aid Office reviews
the SAP policy and sends letters to those students whose SAP status
has changed.
Can I appeal my change in my SAP
status?
Yes. Students not maintaining SAP can appeal the loss of aid eligibility.
Any such appeal must be submitted in writing to the Financial Aid
Office along with supporting documentation of the circumstances
involved in the appeal. Decisions about appeals for extension of
aid to students not maintaining SAP are at the sole discretion of
the Financial Aid Office and are final.
How can I check my SAP status?
Click
here, log in and go to the Financial Aid section to check your
status.
