May 2008 Commencement Ceremony

WHEN/WHERE – The May Commencement for The College of Saint Rose will be held on Saturday, May 10, 10:00 am. The ceremony will be held at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) in Saratoga Springs, 33 miles north of the Saint Rose campus. The College has chosen this site in order to allow graduates to bring more guests than available sites in Albany would allow. The ceremony will be followed by a reception for graduates, their guests, faculty and staff at SPAC.

TICKETS – Admission will be by ticket only. Each graduate who participates in the ceremony is entitled to six (6) admission tickets. Tickets will be available in the Events Scheduling and Administration Office, second floor Cabrini Hall, 399 Western Avenue from May 5th through May 9th upon presentation of your Campus Store receipt for your academic attire order and your ID card. It is your responsibility to safeguard these tickets; there will be no replacements. Pick up times are: Monday - Thursday 8:00 am - 6:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am – 2:00 pm. When picking up your tickets, you will be asked if you need them all. If you do not, please turn in the excess so they can be given to others.

EXTRA TICKETS – Questions regarding additional tickets should be directed to Debi Matney in the Events Scheduling and Administration Office at matneyd@strose.edu. Requests for extra tickets must be made through the graduate’s College e-mail address. The graduate needs to provide the following information: student’s name, number of extra tickets requested, and student’s direct phone number. Being on the Extra Ticket List will not guarantee you extra tickets or the number you are requesting. If you obtain extra tickets, they will be placed in your envelope with your regular tickets.

ACADEMIC ATTIRE – Graduates who are planning to participate in the ceremony will be required to wear the appropriate Saint Rose academic attire (cap, tassel, gown, and hood). Graduate (Master’s) gowns differ from undergraduate (Bachelor’s) gowns in the sleeves; so graduates will need to order a new gown. Orders for the purchase of academic attire must be placed at the Campus Store by Friday, April 4th. This order must include your payment of $54. Please find the enclosed order form for purchase of the academic attire. Order forms and money should be mailed to the Campus Store. There will be an additional fee of $10 for orders received after April 4th. The College cannot guarantee delivery of late orders. Academic attire can be picked up during regular Campus Store hours (Monday – Thursday 8:00 am – 5:30 pm and Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm) from May 5th through May 9th. Questions regarding academic attire may be directed to the Campus Store at (518) 458-5436.

COMMENCEMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS – Each graduate is entitled to five announcements at no charge. Announcements are NOT invitations/seating tickets. These may be picked up in the Campus Store from April 7th through April 25th. Announcements not claimed after April 25th will be available on a first come, first served basis.

TIMING – The gates will open at 8:45 am. Graduates should plan to arrive at SPAC by 9:00 am. Line up for graduates will begin at 9:15 am behind the stage (enter from doorway to right of stage). The ceremony will begin at 10:00 am and end about 12:45 pm. The reception immediately following the ceremony will end about 2:15 pm.

DIRECTIONS TO SPAC – More detailed directions will be included with tickets. It usually takes 40 minutes to drive the 33 miles from the College to the SPAC parking lot. From the College, proceed west on Western Avenue for 3 miles. Go 23 lights and then bear right onto I-87 north. Travel north on I-87 for 25 miles to exit 13N; the sign will say Route 9 north, Saratoga Springs. Proceed off the exit ramp and go 2.8 miles on Route 9. At the 4th light, turn left onto the Avenue of the Pines (sign says Saratoga Performing Arts Center/Gideon Putnam). Take Avenue of the Pines to fork in the road and bear right. Continue until a traffic light. Make a left at the light onto Route 50 south. Entrance to SPAC parking lot will be on left at the next light.

TRANSPORTATION – The College assumes most graduates and guests will want to drive, but a bus is available on a reservation basis. It will leave the College at 7:55 am and depart SPAC at 2:00 pm. To reserve space contact the Events Scheduling and Administration Office by May 2nd at matneyd@strose.edu. Include name of graduate and total number of passengers.
