SYRACUSE – The College of Saint Rose women’s basketball team opened up a season 3-0 for the third time in the past five years with a 65-56 victory at Le Moyne College tonight. The game marked the 2008-09 Northeast-10 Conference opener for both clubs.

SYRACUSE – The College of Saint Rose men’s basketball team has started a season 0-2 for the first time in its 18-year NCAA Division II era following tonight’s 67-57 setback at Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne College. The Golden Knights, who dropped their season-opener 69-64 to visiting Philadelphia University on Saturday, were held to 28.6 percent (10-for-35) shooting, while the host Dolphins canned 50.0 percent (13-for-26) of their opportunities from the floor in the second half.

ALBANY – Time Warner will do a live telecast of this Wednesday’s Northeast-10 Conference basketball contests between The College of Saint Rose and host Le Moyne College. The women’s game is scheduled for 5:30 pm, with the men’s game set to follow at 7:30 pm. The broadcast, which will originate on Channel 26 in Syracuse, will also be aired on Channel 3 in the Albany market.

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women’s soccer team had three of its members garner weekly accolades from the Northeast-10 Conference this afternoon. Sophomore midfielder Amanda Schweers was chosen as the Player of the Week, junior keeper Shannon Murphy was named Goalkeeper of the Week and freshman midfielder Christina Cuffari earned Freshman of the Week plaudits.

RINDGE, NH – The College of Saint Rose women’s soccer team accomplished something it had not been able to do in four previous postseason meetings against Franklin Pierce University, thus rewriting its record book on many fronts. The Golden Knights upended the second-seeded Ravens 4-0 in the second round of the 2008 NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship, marking the first time in program history Saint Rose defeated Franklin Pierce in the NCAA Tournament.

Richardson Tip-Off Tournament. The Golden Knights will play at 3:00 pm tomorrow in the championship game against the winner of today’s second contest between host Lincoln University and Briarcliffe College.

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose men’s basketball team dropped its second straight home opener, after having won its previous dozen, with a 69-64 loss to visiting Philadelphia University this afternoon at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Rams (1-0), who brought back four starters from last year’s 22-12 squad, made the most of their chances from the free throw line by going 23-for-30. The Golden Knights shot well from the stripe as well, but got there only half the time with a 10-for-14 effort.

RINDGE, NH – The College of Saint Rose women’s soccer team got its march to a national championship off on the right foot with a 2-0 first-round victory versus Georgian Court (12-7-5) on the campus of Franklin Pierce University this afternoon. The Golden Knights (17-3-2), who are making their sixth NCAA Tournament appearance within the past seven years, will meet the host Ravens in a second-round match Sunday. Kickoff is set for noon between two clubs who played to a 1-1 draw in last Sunday’s Northeast-10 Conference Championship match that Saint Rose eventually won via penalty kicks.
