Continuing Education Admissions Policies

Admission through the Experienced Adult Program (EAP)
Since 1971, The College of Saint Rose has recognized college-level learning that adults have gained outside of the traditional classroom. Students in this program have the opportunity to develop a portfolio that demonstrates non-traditional learning and they, thereby, earn credit applicable toward a baccalaureate degree from The College of Saint Rose.

Of the 122 credits required for graduation, EAP students may earn up to 92 credit hours through portfolio credits, proficiency examination(s) and transfer credits (cannot exceed 62). A minimum of 30 credit hours in regular courses must be taken at the College, including at least 12 credit hours in the major.

Students may earn credit through the EAP portfolio process for verifiable college-level learning from work experience, volunteer work, non-credit seminars, military service, independent reading, other learning activities or a combination of the above.

To apply as a Experienced Adult Program student, you must:

  • Meet with an advisor from Graduate and Continuing Education Admissions.
The advisor will assist prospective students in determining whether their prior learning might be eligible for portfolio credit.
  • Admitted students who did not initially pursue portfolio credits may do so in consultation with the EAP Coordinator.
  • To meet with an Experienced Adult Program advisor call (518) 454-5143 or email ace@strose.edu

Admission of Non-Matriculated Students
The College recognizes that some applicants may wish to take courses for the purpose of personal enrichment or to secure credits pending change to matriculated status or for transfer to another college. Those students who wish to earn credits at The College of Saint Rose may be admitted on a non-matriculated basis. Non-matriculated students are limited to study on a part-time basis.

To apply as a non-matriculated student, you must:

  • Call 518-454-5143 or email ace@strose.edu for more information or to schedule an appointment with Graduate and Continuing Education Admissions.
  • Bring your college transcript with you to the initial advisement session.

It is strongly recommended that students seek admission on a matriculated basis upon completion of 12 credits. Applicants under non-matriculated status must present proof of a high school diploma or equivalent as an admission credential. Application, advisement and registration are initiated at Graduate and Continuing Education Admissions.

Freshman applicants who have been denied admission to The College of Saint Rose may not enter as non-matriculated students. Transfer students who have been denied admission from the College are eligible for enrollment as non-matriculated students in special circumstances only. Students who have been dismissed from the College are not eligible for enrollment as non-matriculated students.

The College of Saint Rose does not discriminate on the basis of race/color, creed, sex, handicap, sexual orientation or national/ethnic origin in the administration of its educational and admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
