Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to complete a Bachelor's degree?
A Bachelor's degree is received after completion of an appropriate course of study consisting of a minimum of 122 credits. Bachelor's degrees may be completed in four years of full-time study or over a longer period on a part-time basis.

Can I earn credit for learning achieved at work?
The Experienced Adult Program at The College of Saint Rose awards credit for college-level learning that adults have achieved outside the classroom, including professional and volunteer settings.

Does the college offer shorter-term programs?
Certificate Programs offer shorter-term preparation in specific skills and certify completion of course work related to skills. Certificates may include credit or non-credit course work, e.g. ASL Certificate (non-credit) or Computer Information Systems Certificate (credit).

What is a CEU?
A Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized measure of no-credit Continuing Education activities (one CEU equals 10 hours of instruction).

Can I take a college course without credit?
Credit courses may be taken without credit on a space available basis unless otherwise indicated. There is an audit fee. See Tuition and Fees.

Do I need to apply for admission to take courses?
In order to attend full-time, or to take certain classes, students must be matriculated. A matriculated student has completed the application process, submitted transcripts and been officially accepted into a program of study leading toward a baccalaureate degree. A full-time student takes a course load of at least 12 credit hours a semester.

For non-degree evening, part-time study, no application is needed. A Non-Matriculated Student is a student who is taking courses for credit but not yet pursuing a degree. A non-matriculated student is limited to taking a maximum of 11 credits a semester. To pursue a bachelor's degree, a non-matriculated student must apply to the College and be accepted into a degree program. For application information, contact Graduate and Continuing Education Admissions or apply on-line.

What does it mean when a course has a pre-requisite?
Prerequisites are courses which must be satisfied before a more advanced course may be taken. For example, Business 221, Intermediate Accounting 1, requires Business 121 and 122 as prerequisites.

What do the code numbers listed in the course
schedule mean?

These are CRNs. A course reference number (CRN) is a code for a course section. Students may register for a course by using the CRN and the subject/course/section codes.

What are transcripts and where do I get one?
A transcript is a reproduction of the complete official record of courses taken, credits earned, and grades received. Official transcripts are imprinted with the college seal and signature/title of the certifying officer, and are requested for transfer applications, graduate school applications or other needs. Transcripts are available from the Registrar's office of the schools you have attended.

What is a transfer student?
A transfer student is a student who applies for admission to college with a record of previous college credits.

Does The College of Saint Rose accept transfer credits?
Students may transfer up to 62 credits from another institution. In liberal education courses, credit is granted for all courses in which a student receives a grade of C- or better. The College will review all transfer credits at the time of acceptance. Students with a record of previous college credits apply for admission as a Transfer Student.
