You are an accomplished educator and have made a difference in the lives of hundreds of children. Now you want to make a difference beyond the walls of your classroom. By enrolling in a Saint Rose graduate program in educational leadership, you will be empowered to make and implement policy in a school district or educational agency.

The Saint Rose Difference
The Saint Rose graduate programs in Educational Leadership and Administration prepare students for careers as educational administrators at either the school or district level. These programs combine theory and practice, culminating in a field experience that is both appropriate and meaningful to the individual’s personal and professional goals.

The master of science degree in educational leadership and administration is a 36-credit program that includes a research sequence as well as a six-credit internship. All students complete team research projects designed to help them assess the quality of school programs in their own or neighboring schools. Students investigate leadership, instructional practice, curriculum, staff development, data mining, and technology as they determine whether there is evidence of planning, action, and evaluation in those areas.

Applicants who have already earned a master's degree in Education but desire certification in Educational Leadership and Administration may choose to pursue an advanced certificate in School Building Leadership or School District Leadership.

Certification
Depending on your prior training, experience, and career goals, the Educational Leadership and Administration graduate program offers several options for state certification:

  • Completion of the 36-credit master’s degree in Educational Leadership, and Certification at the School Building level;
  • Certification at the School Building level by completing 18 credits and the internship (for students who already hold a master’s degree in education); or
  • Certification at the School District Leader level by completing 24 credits and the internship (for students who already hold a master’s degree in education).

Career Opportunities
With a degree or advanced certificate in the field of educational administration, you will be qualified and eligible to accept a position as a school principal, department chair, school district administrator, or director of a non-profit educational agency.

Field Experience
Whether you choose to earn a master's degree or an advanced certificate, you will complete a six-credit internship, during which time you will be mentored by a practicing administrator within your school district, as well as a Saint Rose faculty member. In addition, you will also be required to complete field assignments as they correspond to coursework.

The following professionals and professional organizations offer seminars and mentoring support to educational administration students:

  • New York State Council of School Superintendents
  • Association of School Business Officials
  • School Administrators Association of
    New York State
