Newsletter

The Office of Parent Relations provides two opportunities for our parents keep informed about life on campus.

Parent Relations E-Blast Program

Parents who would like to receive additional information about what is going on within the campus community, what new resources are available for parents, and any other news we feel might be interesting to you is sent via an email distribution list. You will then have the opportunity to respond with your thoughts directly to us, or to the list as a whole group. We are hopeful that parents will use this medium as a way to brainstorm ideas for difficulties they are experiencing, to share resources that they become aware of, and to mentor each other. Parents that have been participating thus far have provided us with wonderful feedback. Please consider joining us!

Monthly Newsletter

Every month The Office of Parent Relations sends its newsletter to interested parents via US mail. Included in the monthly newsletter is information on upcoming college events, important dates for you and your student, along with updates on campus policy and any other information we feel our parents would like to know. If you would like to sign up for the monthly newsletter, simply drop us a line at parents@strose.edu.

A Guide to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) for Parents

One of the challenges parents may face when their son or daughter transitions from the high school environment to
college is the change in privacy standards regarding the educational records of the student. All colleges and
universities including The College of Saint Rose are bound by a federal law named the Family Educational Rights
and Privacy Act otherwise known as FERPA (or the Buckley Amendment).

"The first dealings that my wife Elaine & I had with the Office of Parent Relations and Wendy Neifeld Wheeler was at our son's freshman orientation last summer. Wendy coordinated the entire 2-day event, which we found extremely informative. Wendy also got us interested in participating in 'Reach Out St Rose Day' which was held in the fall. We spent the day working on a Habitat for Humanity project in Arbor Hill with the entire Women's Basketball team. It was a very rewarding experience. Wendy works hard to keep parents 'in the loop' and we truly appreciate it."
