3+3 Pre-Law Program Application

______________________________________________

The College of Saint Rose a offers rigorous program of study for students interested in pursuing careers as attorneys. Since the nation’s law schools do not recommend any particular major as the single “best” preparation for law school, students can major in one of many outstanding programs at Saint Rose, while receiving dual advisement from experienced faculty members as they prepare to enter law school.

At Saint Rose, students find a variety of opportunities to prepare them for admission to law school. Our strong liberal education curriculum combined with our outstanding academic programs emphasizes critical thinking, writing, and analytical skills—essential elements for success in the field of law. We encourage students to think of law school as a complement to their undergraduate studies, since the study and practice of law can merge with most areas of interest.

THE SAINT ROSE DIFFERENCE
The College of Saint Rose offers a unique 3+3 Dual Degree Program in Law, in conjunction with Albany Law School. This program facilitates the completion of an undergraduate degree and the J.D. degree within a six-year period. Students complete three years of study at Saint Rose, followed by three years at Albany Law School, and receive their Saint Rose degree after completing the first year at Albany Law.

FIELD EXPERIENCE
Pre-law students are encouraged to explore the many opportunities available at Saint Rose as they further their knowledge of the law career. The College offers a variety of internships at the local and national levels as well as lectures, service learning, and research opportunities that complement academic work.

Located in Albany and only five minutes from New York state capital office buildings, Saint Rose offers students  the advantage of conducting internships with various private law firms, the New York State Attorney General’s Office, the New York State Legislature, and with lobbying firms and labor unions.

OUR EXPERIENCED FACULTY
There may be times during your undergraduate study when you wonder if law school is the right choice for you, when you aren’t sure where to find information about a particular law school, or when you need some guidance as you pursue the application process. At Saint Rose, you will benefit from dual advisement—that is, having one advisor in your major program, as well as a specially designated pre-law advisor to assist you in your academic needs, especially in selecting those courses best suited to prepare you for the academic challenges of a legal education.

“Saint Rose prepared me for the challenges I would face as a law student at Albany Law School. From the general encouragement I received to read, question, debate, and learn, to the very practical legal research exercises I encountered in my coursework. I even had the opportunity to visit the law library at Albany Law School two years before I would be a student there. In addition, my political science classes at Saint Rose enabled me to examine several legal issues, including the legal dimensions of Civil Rights issues, Federal labor laws, the Supreme Court's handling of property rights and the First Amendment's protection of speech, press and association as the foundational Civil Liberties in the United States.”
